The Lifespan Sleep Disorders Center is the region's first multi-site, electronically linked sleep disorders center. Rhode Island and Newport hospitals also provide portable home sleep monitors. All 14 beds in the Lifespan system are connected by a digital polysomnography network, which is a confidential patient profile database. Our team consists of board certified pulmonologists and sleep specialists, behavioral psychologists and registered technologists, all highly trained in the field of sleep medicine. Sleep medicine services, including evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, are provided by sleep specialists at locations in Providence, Middletown, Warwick and Newport.

You can look bad, you may feel moody, and you perform poorly. Sleepiness can make it hard to get along with your family and friends and hurt your scores on school exams, on the court or on the field. For example, drowsiness and falling asleep at the wheel cause more than , car crashes every year.

The majority of sleep-related problems and symptoms in children and young people can be assessed, diagnosed and treated by either:. Referrals to our service usually need to come from consultants working in secondary care, after an initial assessment has been made and treatment started. We also do not usually accept direct referrals from doctors not working in the NHS private practice paediatricians. If you think your child has a sleep problem which may benefit from referral to our service, you should discuss with your GP or doctor in the first instance.
