7 reasons why focusing on one aim is SO important in building successful internet businesses

It’s so easy to get distracted from your primary business purpose, particularly when you’re working for yourself.

At the beginning of the day, the deluge of emails can be overwhelming and it’s tempting to spend hours wading through them.

If you’re going to be successful, it’s essential that you stay focused on your primary aim – to build a successful business.

Here’s 7 tips to success for business building:-

Decide what your primary aim is – whether you want to build a successful site selling ebooks, build an information site, be an eBay powerseller – whatever it is, you need to know the one thing you’re aiming for

Set Targets –  create targets to help you achieve that goal.  Break them down into daily, weekly and monthly targets.  How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time !  That’s also the smart way to build your business, don’t get overwhelmed by how far you have to go, work out what steps you need to take to get there.

Make them SMART

Smart targets are specific, measureable, achievable, realistic and time-limited.  For example,  for a new website, your target might be “to sell $100 worth of products within 90 days”.

Write it down

Write down your targets in bullet pointed format – and put them somewhere you’ll see them every day.  This is a helpful reminder to keep doing something every day and can also help you stay on task when you’re tempted to get distracted.

Create Rewards

Add in rewards for when you reach goals.  In our example, how would you choose to reward yourself for actually achieving $100 of sales ?  Celebrate each step of success along the way.

Keep at it

Even when nothing seems to be happening, keep working at it.  Most businesses need a lot of ground work before anything starts to happen – a bit like a building site, where they seem to spend ages on the foundations, and yet it’s just a matter of days when the actual building finally starts to appear.

Focus, focus, focus – stay focused.  Don’t get distracted from your main purpose – keep working towards your goals and don’t quit!

Auction Traffic Explosion – John Thornhill’s recently released ebook

February 9, 2007 on 3:57 pm | In Achieve Financial Freedom, Writing an ebook, home based business, internet business, make money online | No Comments

John Thornhill has just released Auction Traffic Explosion – which reveals the secrets of how he’s built his list to over 19000 using just eBay.

John’s also added a great incentive to anyone that buys the book, you can re-sell it and keep all the profits for yourself.

As an eBay powerseller, John can afford such generosity, not only because he’s building his list still further with this offer, but also because he’s offering a whole bunch of his older products as a bonus when you buy the book.

Unlike John’s other products, this is a rather cheap and cheerful ebook, and rather thin at just 15 pages for $7.  There’s not even a Title page!

If you’re interested in selling info products but are disappointed with the income that you’re making – John’s method of using it to build your list could be a way forward.  I’d suggest that you also check out Aurelius Tjin’s Unstoppable List Building which is a free download at the One Dollar Bookstore to get some tips on building your list.

One of the benefits of John’s system is that it is all automated, the ebook delivery and the follow up emails.

John’s stated aim is to build a list to which he can sell again and again.  Typically it’s possible to make up to four times the original value of the sale from your list, if you know how to treat it and what to do with it.

He covers the area of ebook Titles, how to get visitors to your website, using an eBay store and the tools (like Selling Manager and Selling Manager Pro) to help automate the process still further.

If this is something you’re interested in, then it’s worth looking at.

Personally, I don’t feel that John’s shared much new information that isn’t in his other products – much of it’s just reworked into a different format.  That’s fine, as he’s selling this as a product that can increase traffic – and there’s plenty of people that are looking for legitimate and immediate ways to do that.

Whilst this is a method that everyone can use – use it with caution – it’s all too easy to get distracted and find you’re spending more time on the eBay business than the original business it was meant to boost!

Stay on Target with your business !

It’s so easy to get distracted isn’t it?!

We have the best of intentions, but then something comes along and we find we’ve gone half way down that track without even intending to.

Over the past year I’ve read literally dozens of ebooks and reports written by the internet marketing experts

The one overwhelming piece of information that they all say is how easy it can be to waste time and not stay focused on the important things.

Let’s have a look at the past 24 hours:-

Emails in about Day Job Killer – a system of making money with PPC advertising (although some think it’s rather unorthodox in it’s approach).  Read reviews from well-known marketers – not all positive and reminded myself that this was NOT related to my main business, so was not relevant.

Email from Matt Callen about Adsense Advantage – offering a free report on how one guy using his HyperVRE system had made over $9000 in just one month.  Well worth a read – although I’d have liked more information – like how much money this guy spent on PPC advertising to get that kind of an income.  You can download Matt’s free report here.

Email from Michael Campbell – general internet marketing info, but suggesting that I subscribe to the Adsense Blogspot update list to get the latest information on making money with Adsense.  I did – am fed up with hearing about it first from Joel Comm!

Dozens of other emails offering new ways to make money – info products, PLR, affiliate, you name it, there’ve been emails about it.

Since I realised just how much time I was wasting just reading through these and chasing off after the latest ” fad” – I’ve been far more strict with myself.

I know what my goal is  – to build my Adsense income by creating quality, informative sites – and if something will help me do that, then I’ll go with it.  Otherwise it needs to be ignored or shelved (if it looks interesting for the future, I’ll print a page out and file it for reference).

This is a key way to build your business – that’s what I’m doing today – adding information and content to my existing sites and the related blogs, posting new articles and building my Adsense income further.

Don’t get distracted – whatever your business, whatever you’re good at – focus on doing more of the same and doing it better!

Mike Filsaime and the Death of Internet Marketing – A Step Too Far?

November 16, 2006 on 2:28 pm | In home based business, internet business, make money online | No Comments

Mike Filsaime is a seasoned internet marketer who got started in internet marketing early on in the game.

His release of Butterfly Marketing earlier this year was a huge success.  The Butterfly Marketing manuscript is a detailed information product that shows how to create a successful product launch.
With people like Michael Cheney giving credit to Mike’s product for his own hugely successful launch of Adsense Videos earlier this year ($250,000 in 7 days), you can understand why Mike’s manuscript sold so well.

His latest free product, the Death of Internet Marketing, follows closely on the heels of Scott Boulch’s stunning viral success, “The Death of Adsense” which certainly got people to sit up and pay attention.

The viral success of this “bad news” product may well have been what inspired Mike to launch this latest report.

When someone as well known as Mike writers a report titled “The Death of Internet Marketing”, you can be pretty sure it’s not going to sit on a shelf and collect dust!  Mike talks about being overdosed with product launches – if you’re signed up to any lists of well known marketer’s you’ll already know what he means.  I think my own inbox had at least twenty offers to download Mike’s report from various well-known names!

So is Internet Marketing dead?

Whilst Mike bemoans the difficulty getting attention amidst an increasing number of successful launches, it seems that he’s almost a victim of his own success.

By creating such a successful product (Butterfly Marketing) to explain how to get people’s attention and create a successful product launch – that’s exactly what people are doing – with the result that the market is swamped with product launches.

It seems that Mike’s main concern is that it’s getting harder than ever to make money from our fellow internet marketers.  Yet there is better information that ever on how to successfully build a list, create products and sales pages in many other very profitable niches that the seasoned marketer shouldn’t worry.

Don’t rely on one source of income, but have several streams of income.  Market to a niche – you’ll notice that experts like Rosalind Gardner earn good money from their internet marketing colleagues, but also have sites in totally unrelated areas, such as online dating.

After the ups and downs with their Adsense income for many, the message is clear, diversify to survive

Latest project

October 5, 2006 on 9:17 am | In Affiliate marketing, home based business, internet business, make money online, seo | No Comments

Haven’t been able to post for a while due to a whole bunch of projects which are currently underway.  I’m building my biggest site yet, which you can find at http://www.iquitwork.com/Site_Map.html .  It’s been great fun setting it all up and getting it running – especially since I’ve recently bought the XSitePro software which makes setting it up and layout so easy.

This software also has the benefit of saving money as you only pay one hosting fee however many websites you run!  Pretty useful – though I’m not going to move over too many of my older sites, just enjoying creating the new ones on this easy to use software designed for internet marketers.
